towing/wiring issue

I have a 2007 jeep Commander, it has factory installed 4 wire trailer lights and reciever. tried to hook up my boat trailer but the lights did not work, also installed the 7 way tow harness and the lights still do not work. It says to skip the scanstar step if the 4 way harness is installed. Is there a way to turn on the tow relay outputs without the star scan? i think that may be why the 4 wire and the 7 do not work.

Get one of those 4 wire trailer connector testers - only a couple bucks. Check power right at the connector in case trailer has a problem like ground. Also check for a blown fuse on the XK. Possibly #11
