Question Curious about fuel

09 limited with the HEMI . I know the manual says preference is 89 octane. When purchased my Commander dealer said just to run 87, which is what was in it at the time. When I added more fuel I put 87 seemed to run fine avg 15 around town 19 plus on highway. After reading through the manual I decided to run 89. Am I crazy ? but seems as though I not getting as good of mpg now. It has 29000 miles on it. Just wanted to hear some opinions from you all out there . BTW it has no mods or tunes, just bone stock. Thanks
