$3,000 to Increase Horsepower!

Ok guys I have $3,000 to increase my horsepower in my completly stock 2007 Commander Limited edition with a 3.7 Liter V6. I know nothing about mods so if you where in this situation what is the biggest bang for the buck without distroying the engine or overworking it... Any thoughts on how the 3K should be spent?

Honestly, I'd just get a Commander with a bigger engine. There are a few things to do here and there, but nothing will compare to having a v8. I plan on trading up before doing any further mods to mine.

But if that's not in the cards, here's what I know of that should help:

1. Cold Air Intake (done this myself, noticeable throttle response and more power in high RPM)
2. JBA headers
3. New exhaust system
4. Engine tuner/programmer (just ordered one myself, so far people are reporting good results)
5. Ported & polished throttle body (good results reported from people with this too)
6. New gears (expensive and hard to do, if you have QTII then you already have this, otherwise not really recommended)

Basically all of those mods will work together. It's somewhat pointless to have some without the others, because it's only going to work as well as your worst bottleneck.

You should be able to do all of those things (minus the gears) for about $2,000. You should gain a bit of HP, torque, and even MPG, but the power still won't compare to a v8.

Thank you!

If you dont mind me asking do you know how much a V8 conversion would be? Only reason I ask the my current set up paid in full already or I would just start with the V8 model.

A V8 conversion would be pretty difficult. Quite honestly I would just look around online and see what dealers have in the ways of V8 Commanders. Clean yours up really nice, get a true market price from Edmunds (or something similar) of both vehicles, and begin to barter. Nobody wants a V8 gas hog right now, so they aren't selling very easily. You should be able to find what you want.

FYI, your Commander is not a Limited if it has a 3.7 V6. It would be cheaper for you to sell your Jeep and put the money toward a model with a V8.

Good luck.

Where abouts are you located? If A V8 commander is out of the question, then $3000 into yours will make a big improvement. If your not to far away I can make a 3.73 gear swap a reality for you for about $1000. Then you could sink the other $2000 into a cold air intake, headers, throttle body and exhaust. The tuner is worked into the $1,000 for gears because you need to program for the gear swap

Depending on how much power you are looking to add, you will want to look and see if the trans can hold it.

The 3.7 liter transmission is the same as the transmission in the SRT8 Grand Cherokee. There isn't enough parts out for the 3.7 liter to ever have to worry about the transmission
