Would you take a chance.....

'06 midnight blue HEMI limited 4x4 QDII.....157,000 miles.....drives great and is in above average interior condition (just needs detailing).....service 4WD came on, dealer left message today saying it was fixed and good to go.

Lots of miles but I may be able to pick it up for 7000-7500. What early pitfalls could I be looking at with that many miles and what maintenance would be in order if purchased?

Thanks

It all depends on how well it was maintained. Is there anyway to get the service history on it? The transmission should have been serviced twice already.

I can request a Carfax but I doubt the service history due to it being sold through a dealer/broker.

So I suppose I could get it serviced ASAP if I do get it. I was supposed to buy a white one with 128,000 (4x4 4.7L) but my funds got tied up due to the holidays until Monday. I looked at the blue HEMI first but the 4x4 warning turned me off and then I stumbled upon the really nice 4.7L.

Soooo, Monday is coming up quick and I need to make a decision. Love the white one and was set to drive it home Friday but then the guy called and said the blue one was fixed.

What tranny service do you recommend on either one? Sounds like I need it done no matter what.

Thanks for the reply XK

Correct. Don't do a transmission flush. Actually drop the pan, replace the two filters and reinstall the pan with RTV and new mopar ATF+4.

The transfer case has a drain and fill plug. Use only mopar NV245 transfer case fluid.

The front diff has a drain and fill plug. Use your choice of synthetic 75w140 gear oil. You will need a pump to get the new gear oil in.

The rear diff doesn't have a drain plug so you will have to pull the cover then reinstall the cover with RTV. Again fill with your choice of synthetic 75w140

^ yeah what he said. Go to the dealer and get 2 4oz bottles of friction additive for the axles. One for the front one for the rear.

Considering I've never done any tranny work all that sounds really complicated reading it lol....but I'm sure it's simpler than it sounds. I'm determined to learn how to work on this thing myself for the most part.

With the wealth of knowledge on this board I shouldn't have an issue!

Spoke with the broker and asked him to talk to the mechanic and find out exactly what he did to fix the "service 4x4" light on the blue limited HEMI. Said he'd get back with me so we'll see!
