New TSB Aug. 4, 2007

Here's a new one. Might want to go out and check it. I checked mine and I do have a scratch near the passenger side lower corner of the handle but I don't see how the handle could have done it. Coincidence maybe.

I don't think you have to use it for it to scratch the paint.

How do you open the liftgate without using the handle?

Sounds like there's no gasket under the handle so with time the handle contacts the liftgate and wears down the paint.

Re: New TSB Aug. 4, 2007

Is this just on the base models? I looked at the handle on mine and it is completely surrounded by the chrome license plate brow... it doesn't contact paint at all.

Re: New TSB Aug. 4, 2007

From the way I read it, and looking at the diagram in the TSB, they call it the handle but are talking about the brow.

My 06 Limited is the same, no way it could hurt the paint.

Re: New TSB Aug. 4, 2007

I looked at mine and there is no paint issues but they have to be talking about the chrome piece that houses the handle with Jeep on it. The outer edges of that are the only thing I can see that could wear the paint over time.
