End of the road for my Commander

Its with a tinge of sadness that I got home from vacation in Florida to find that my Commander had been stolen. It was amusing to have my daughter say how many times that she saw Daddy's car whilst driving around Orlando and down to Miami. Particularly as over here in the UK you might see one a month if you are lucky.

To make matters worse it was from the dealer who was supposed to be carrying out its first service at 12k miles. I expect a long running battle between my insurance and their will take place but meanwhile they've lent me a PT Cruiser !!"??!""? - but I suppose its better than walking.

If anyone in the UK happens to see a Black HEMI Commander around (they are quite rare over here), with side steps, privacy glass, and a 10" Carbon Neutal sticker on the rear window (put on after the pictures in my gallery were taken) could they please ring the Police to check it out.

Gutted and miss my big yank tank.

PS. Anyone had / heard of similar experiences with claims against dealerships please let me know.

Man, I feel your pain. I personally think the dealership owes you a new Commander - a 2008 one.

Re: End of the road for my Commander

BigRicky, my condolences on the Commander. If it was stolen while it was in their care shouldn't it be covered under the insurance? I think they should provide you with a fully loaded new 4WD model (your color and engine choice).

Re: End of the road for my Commander

I'm right there with RUBI, I would have thrown a fit if they lost mine, and I can promise you I would have not left that dealership with any thing less than what I drove in! It's probably better that you dont get it back, I'm sure it is stripped or they trashed it. The dealership should be held responsible for your vehicle. Keep us posted on the outcome.

Re: End of the road for my Commander

I suspect the Dealer's story is that you brought the vehicle in for the 12k service then left it there for free storage while you went on vacation. I dont know if that story will hold up or not, but if you have to deal only with your own insurance I think you are gonna get the shaft as they will likely only pay for the DEPRECIATED value, which is likely to be great. Seems to me the best course is to proceed against the Dealer and insist on them replacing your unit. You may need an attorney and you will have to evaluate whether or not its worth the legal fees. IMHO I would go for a new 2,008 with the unlimited warranty and all the additional goodies, and pay a reasonable amount for the upgrade. john

Re: End of the road for my Commander

Most dealers here in the states have a sign up saying they are not responsible for the car, or anything left in it...

Re: End of the road for my Commander

I think those kinds of signs in the US are posted in hopes of encouraging people to remove valuables when leaving their cars and in hopes of discouraging the lawsuit-happy. In the case where a car entrusted to the dealership's care is actually stolen, I don't think such a sign would absolve them of responsibility. Obviously he was made to feel comfortable enough to leave his Commander even while he was out of town, a practice many of us use to avoid the inconvenience of being w/o the car for normal day to day activities. It might be a good idea to take some photos of the yard where they store their own, and their customer's vehicles.

I hope they get this sorted out for you quickly and satisfactorily... It would definitely be bad for business if this kind of story got out to the locals.

I'm so sorry your vacation ended that way, best of luck!

Linda...
