'06 won't go into gear.

Starts up fine but when shifting from park to anything else, nothing happens. Tried engaging 4WLow but even though the indicator light says its engaged, nothing moves. Cleared the CPU by detaching the neg battery terminal for 10+ minutes but still no joy. No leaks, unusual sounds... just won't move.

I had an intermittant prob like this. It would slip out of gear when accelerating on an on ramp and then would not go back in unless I turned it off waited a couple minutes and then start it up again. Took it to the dealer thinking the worst. Turned out to be low on trans fluid. The trans cooler lines are notorious for seeping. You may never notice any drips. I never did.

You could look into the shifting bezel being dirty. maybe something spilled on or near the shifter and got into the electronic board underneath. If thats the case, i would need taken apart, and clean the contact points with Q tips and alcohol. Theres a how in here on the disassembly of this, with pics. Hopes this helps

I think it might be the low transmission fluid, mine would hesitate when accelerating after an abrupt stop so I added a transmission additive and it stopped doing it, I guess the fluid was just low.

Now it just hesitates once in a while when you leave it parked with the front on an incline for a couple of hours, then when you try to put it on drive it just goes back to neutral and you have to shift back to park and then drive so it can catch and go.

Yeah, but when the fluids low, it slips, something happens..... his transmission isn't even engaging for it to slip.
I'd still check the fluid level anyways

It seems like most of our tranny problems are electronic.

Just a bit of info here, but most Chrysler transmissions have a pump that works in Neutral, not Drive. The 545RFE behind the Hemi is one. I don't know what trans you have fco27 but you should look at the tranny dipstick and see if it says to check in park or neutral. If it says Neutral, the next time you start the engine on an incline, put it in neutral for a few seconds and see if that problem goes away. I bet it does and if it does, that means your torque converter is draining its fluid back into the pan when on that incline. My Dodge truck has a check valve installed on the tranny line to help prevent that but not sure if the Commander does or not.

My '06 just did this today! Haven't read through the thread yet but my mechanic is stumped tonight. Backup lights come on and can see the manual movement underneath. Had the cooler lines replaced about a month ago when leakage was found. Fluid is full and clean. Gonna have to get a tow tomorrow morning.
