2008 4.7v8 300hp????

What do you think is making the 4.7L make 300HP now.

i'd like to make mine have that much HP. i wonder if its in the computer tune. i can't imagine they changed the whole motor for that HP.

It is a re-engineered motor. It uses the same basic design as the 2007 and older versions but not all parts are interchangable.

Chrysler will be doing the same for the Hemi next year's model run.

This is buying time for the company's V8 motors as there is not the significant redesigns going into place as there are with the V6 "Phoenix" engine program (to replace nearly all the current V6 engines) and the Cummins diesel program (which brings three new diesels to the parts bins).

actually i wasn't. either way it doesn't make a difference.

power is power. more is more.

so even if our jeeps with the 235 hp, at the wheels its more like 188hp

so the 300hp would be 240hp.

considering the drive train adds a 20% reduction in power from the crank.

Wouldn't matter if it is at the wheels or the flywheel, as long as they didn't change where the measure the HP, it is a significant increase. Since these measurements are regulated and standardized, they are comparable. There was a change from gross (without any accessories) to net measurements in the 70's that caused a panic.

More interesting to me is that although there is a huge jump in horsepower, the torque is only up 10%. Although the increase should be noticeable, you HEMI owners won't have to be scared at the stoplights.

Read the link! It says that they have managed to increase the compression ratio to 9.8:1 !! That's huge! I have an Audi and it has a 10:1 with a turbo, so 9.8 on a V8 is pretty darn good. Also, they improved induction, porting system and lightweight pistons. That would explain why the torque increase (still pretty good at 320lbft) didn't go up as much as the HP. Fuel Economy is becoming huge and I'm glad to see that Chrysler was able to get MORE HP with better fuel economy, instead of the opposite.
