skid plate?

I recently purchased a used 2006 Commander(non-limited)4.7 V8. Under the front suspension area there's a plastic cover, is that the skid plate or just a regular splash shield. Do all commanders come with the plastic skid plates?

At justforjeeps, they list all the skid plates being made from steel.

Those are the base shields... if you have the Off Road package you get full steel plates.

There are three plastic shield that can be replaced for heavy metal ones. The gas tank is the only hard one to replace.

Okay, that might be correct. I took the front one off but have not looked at the other two yet. I was waiting for it to cool down in AZ before I installed the others. Now I have two 4XGuard ones to install as well.
