took my XK to the dealership yesterday

for that recall.they said it would take about 20mins.
no problem.i`ll just wait.
well, about 45 minutes go by,and the service person come in the waiting room.
we`ve got a problem mr.*insert my last name here*
the flash wouldnt take.everytime they would flash,it would come back "flash failed"
so i could leave it there,or bring it back the next morning.
since i had a bit of running to do,and was already running late,i said i`ll bring it back.
they told me it would be alright to drive.
so,i get going down the road, all the warning lights are, like they said.no problem.
except,my speedometer doesnt work.

fast forward to bout 45 minutes ago......

i go to the dealer ship to pick up my vehical.
well,i get there and my vehical isnt done.i`m kind of like wtf is going on.
the service person come up to me and said"mr.*insert my last name here*we`ve got a problem"
i`m like"now what"
some part is broke and they need to order a new one.
no problem.it`s not costing me anything
the part should be in about 3-4 days.
not a problem.give me my vehical,so i get get out of here.
well,heres the problem.....
they called Chrystler, and they told the dealership not to let me take my vehical cuz the traction control, speedometer and a bunch of other bs doesnt
work.
so basicly, for now,i have no vehical for the next week.
my dealership doesnt have any rentals.
they said call chrystler to see if they would reimburse me for getting a rental.
so,i gotta give the corp. a call and see what they all have to say.
then call around and see if any other dealerships in my area do rentals.
i should have just stayed in bed today
:end rant:

oh my gosh...now I am scared to ever bring mine in for the recall...

Sounds like someone tripped over the power cord mid-flash and bricked your computer.

Raise hell to corporate to get that rental paid for!

It's a recall. Even if they don't normally offer rentals/loaners they should in this case. Then they could just charge it back to Chrysler as a warranty charge of some sort.

Find out who the zone service manager is and call him (her)...ash the dealer service manager to call if you need to and wait for them. Do you have an enerprise nearby? DCX still owns them I believe. Even if the dealer doesnt have any DRAC cars, they still have used cars or salesmans cars....

Do you have the 800 warranty number for service work....if you break down they come and tow you....tell em your broke down...and need a tow to the nearest dlr that can fix you....

Had mine done last week. Service manager told me that most flashes take, but some need re-calibration afterwards--Mine needed that also. He also said that a few need new computers, which they do not stock. If that were the case, I could drive it, but the ABS light would stay on until they replaced the part.

All-in-all, mine took 1 hour. I played in the showroom while I waited.

Sorry to hear of you bad experience, sounds like poor customer service by the service team. Its a shame the way dealers dont give a crap about the customers once they sell them the car, seems to me the cost of losing a customer isnt worth the price of a rental.Couldnt they have assisted in getting you to a local rental co?Luckily we havent had any problems with our dealership, but that could change.Good luck with yours.-43

It is all up to the dealer, mine just gives me a car off the lot. I am veyr happy with Ed Schmidt. they know how to treat their customers. I never worry about taking mine in which has only been twice for recalls.

if they are a five star dealer they have the ability to get up to 5 days covered on a 'good will' policy. It is true that Chrysler won't cover rentals on recalls, but dealers have the power to help their customers...in certain cases...it all goes towards their survey and fixed first visit score. If the service manager / director wont help ask for the district manager to get involved. it is also true that they won't stock that computer as they are vin specific..hope this helps...PS where in MI are you?

No way that could happen here. Even the smallest lots around will give you something. Hell, I've come across small custom shops down here that will hook you up with something while they do the work. Best of luck though...
