Commander Vs. Patriot Vs. Wrangler ~ HELP!

Ok,

So here is the deal. I have had a wrangler for about a year now.
In that time, my 8 year old daughter has had some major health issues, and the doctors are putting her into a wheelchair as she can barely walk on her own anymore.

The Wrangler, as you know has no room for a chair in the back, and the two door part makes it incredibly hard to get her into the back seat to sit down.

I am debating selling my Wrangler, and picking up a Patriot or a Commander.

What things should I look for on these two units. I am pretty familiar with the inline 6 on my '03, but not so much with the newer units.

What are problem areas to look for and things to avoid on a Commander or Patriot that you have experienced? I know this is a Commander site, but I also know from reading several posts, that some of you have had or currently have both.

Any insight would be great.

Avoid '06 commanders. Most bugs got worked out for '08 -'10
Mainly brittle interior door panels.

Wll if space is your concern I would say go with the commander it is much larger than the patriot. I have not had issues with my commander yet and I have the 06. The main issues I know are the door handles and the water pump. I have not had to replace my water pump and I have 80k miles and my door handles are all cracked those do need to get replaced.

Is the water pump a pretty straight forward issue? Or is it more in depth and something that needs a mechanic to repair? Do you know?

I have an 06. My water pump went out at about 150k (I have 194 k on it now). I replaced it myself and I'm not much of a mechanic. It was easy, watch a video on it and found some instructions. I haven't had any problems with door handels.

Anyone had transmission issues? Also, any experience with the 2wd version? There is a 2wd for 6k nearby.

I was starting to have some lag problems when accelerating but added more transmission fluid and no more problems since I guess my transmission fluid was low. Also had to replace my throttle position sensor when my idleing was fluctuating nothing complicated something you can do as well and no more problems since then.
