towing with v6

im wondering if could pull my jayco 19ft travel trailer (3500lbs dry) 4500lbs loaded with my v6 commander? camper is tandem axle with brakes. Commander is a v6 without a trailer package. I understand i would have to install a hitch run brake controller and controller wires, curious to know if the v6 could do it?

The 2wd 3.7 V6 is rated to tow 5800 lbs and the 4wd 3.7 V6 is rated at 3500 lbs.

4WDs are always rated to tow less than 2WDs with the same engine so I'm guessing it has to do with the drivetrain.

The V6 is only rated to 3500 in either 4x2 or 4x4.

The V6 trailer harness also does not include the trailer brake (4 pin connector only). Your trailer is way over the limit - and any cargo you add to the vehicle may reduce the maximum weight of trailer you're rated to tow.

Apparently you know more than the manufacturer. I got my figures from the Jeep website. You had better let them know that they have erroneous information on their website and need to change it.

Ok, looks like I might have to eat my words. Those figures (2wd 3.7 V6 is rated to tow 5800 lbs and the 4wd 3.7 V6 is rated at 3500 lbs) I got from the website last year. Apparently they have now changed them. Now, like JeepCollector said, it says the 2WD and 4WD V6 in standard configuration can tow 3500 lb. However, the maximum towing capacity "when properly equipped" is 6500 lb for both the 2WD and 4WD. I guess "properly equipped" means adding the factory tow package.

I would not try towing that much weight with the V-6, I have a Cummins diesel for towing at home..The 3.7 V-6 is pretty good for a 6, but that would really be pushing it for towing 6,500lbs....IMOA

Maybe that package has the capacity for 6500 lbs because the 4.7L V-8 is an option on that model. My 4.7L is rated for 6500 lbs.
