Thumbs up Commander's Snow-ability

Well it finally snowed here in North West Arkansas!

I was away on business near Dayton, OH wednesday and thursday. It started snowing early thursday morning back here in Arkansas so I was both worried about getting stranded in Chicago as that was where my connecting flight was supposed to be, and excited that I would finally be able to play in the snow!

Got re-routed through Dallas so I made it home, to the airport at least.

This was the first time I had driven any 4x4 in the snow so I was very careful. I was very happy at the way QT1 handled everything. I never slipped at all. I took it easy and the usual 25 minute drive took 45 minutes to get home, but that's okay. Getting home was the point.

I stopped at an empty parking lot that had not been plowed and tried to slide. Nothing. Between QT1 and ESP I was in control the entire time. I did do a couple of reverse 180's though. That was fun!

Plus was that there was an audience of an older Jeep Cherokee and a new FJ Crusier. They both waved to me as I left.

Commander's Snow-ability

On Thursday night, Spokane, WA got dumped on with 17" of snow in less than 24 hours. The city was paralyzed - schools closed, government buildings closed, etc. On Friday, we left Missoula, MT and drove to Spokane to pick up some kids and visit family. The roads over the passes were snow covered and icy - but we never slipped or slid. In Spokane, we cruised through unplowed streets and made it safely to Grandma's house.

This morning, we got up and ran some errands around the city. While we were cruising down an unplowed side-street, a 4x4 Suburban rounded the corner off the plowed road and promptly got stuck. Never one to pass up on an opportunity to help another, we cruised through the deeper snow on near the curb to go around the Suburban and then backed up to him. After a brief conversation, I hooked up the tow rope between the vehicles and pulled him back out onto the paved road.

The Commander is fantastic in the snow and I can't wait to get out there again and play in it. Too bad Missoula only has 2 inches... boo.

RIP - Silver '06 Limited; 5.7 Hemi; 2" TerraFlex Lift; 255/70R17 Bridgestone Dueler REVOS, Horizontal Inclinometer, Signal Frog Antenna Ball, Surco Safari 50"x50" Roof Rack, GetLost4x4 bumper, Bulldog 9k Winch, GetLost4x4 Rock Rails - (should have added a snorkel)

That's a great story. I also like to help people whenever possible and I've sure seen a lot of people who have needed help in this particular storm.

So I had a chance to do some back-to-back comparisons with the 4Runner and Commander in the same exact areas. Since we only got 8 inches of snow total, neither vehicle had any problems whatsoever. I tried to get them both stuck on some grassy hills that were about a 30 degree incline, but they both climbed right up without any drama.

The only difference I did notice was actually driving on the snowy streets. My 4Runner has stability assist and it made cornering a non-event, even if I purposely entered the turn too fast for the conditions. I wish the Commander had stability assist as well because it's a great feature. If I remember correctly, it was made available on the '08 models, right?

I have the '06 limited and it has the ESC. was running 40 to 50 MPH on >7" of snow without any problem. I was overtaking all the other vehicles including other SUV's. It is so much fun to drive the XK on any types of weather.

I'm not sure which member originally posted the quote "4 wheel drive doesn't mean 4 wheel stop" but I think that applies here
