blown rear diff

Got a 06 commander 3.7l rear diff pinion bearing seized up and now got to get a good used it destroyed the diff housing bearing locked and spun the race. I was thinking can I pull the carrier and ring gear out of the diff and pull driveshaft and drive the commander for two weeks till I get the funds together to buy the new rear axle assembly. I pulled rear axles and rear drive shaft put it in gear and it wont move. I thought it was full time four wheel drive. help please!!!!!

This forum tends to be slower than most. On top of that, I got nothing to help you with, sorry.

But welcome to the forum!

I'm assuming you have QTI, regardless I'm pretty sure QTII and QDII would have the same result.

Yes its full time 4WD, there is an open differentiation in the transfer case between the front and rear driveshafts. If you disconnect the rear the driveshaft, then there is no resistance on one side of the differential in the transfer case and any torque going into the transfer case just spins the differential.

If you can lock the differential, if you had QTII or QDII and put it in 4Low, then the differential wouldn't spin and you would be able to move forward on just the front wheel drive, but you'd be in low gear.

Trying to drive with the rear driveshaft out, is putting a huge stress on the differential in the xfr case, I would NOT continue to try this.

It won't work the computer will go nuts. Like mongo said going in 4LO is the only way to get moving with either axle disconnected.
