GC Diesel in a Commander? Anyone?

Has anyone ever considered or actually put a diesel from a Grand Cherokee that had the Mercedes 3.0 diesel? I'm asking despite emissions and what not.....

Years ago, my Dad and I put Chevy 6.2 diesels in a J20, and two Grand Wagoneers, but those were old school Jeeps and old school diesels...today's diesels are computer operated....but it would be awesome to have a diesel Commander.

They are available overseas from the factory that way.

They are not 50 state legal. I'll bet they could be smog legal in some states other than CA.

We got them in Australia.

Awesome towing machine with great fuel consumption. Would be a massive, expensive job to convert one though.

I starting too. I parted out a 2008 Grand Cherokee CRD, so I have all the parts (motor, transmission, electrical). It is just to find time to put these parts in.

08 Jeep Commander 3.0L - black grille and moldings, RC 2" lift, 1.5" Spidertrax spacers, 255/70R18 Cooper Discoverer AT, blacked out WK rims, Mygig / VES rear monitor, front and rear tailight guards, 30' Contour Trailerable Trimaran

It's interesting that the Diesel Grand Cherokee is allowed in the USA so why can't the Commander have a diesel in the USA?

I have an Aussie XH Diesel Commander and the emission control is higher than the Aussie WH Grands Cherokees. The XH Commander has a Diesel Particular Filter (DPF) installed just behind the Catalytic converter where as the GC doesn't. The DPF traps the exhaust soot you get from start ups and when the engine is kicked back a gear and floored. The DPF does a great job and this Mercedes 3 litre diesel meets all the very stringent Europeans emission control levels.

Hey Multihull. The North American CRD Cherokee have the DPF but I think I will add delete DPF modification.

Yep, I removed and deleted my DPF with the Green Diesel Engineering tune. It works well with no error codes displayed.

The 3 liter Merc diesel is an awesome motor. I get about 600nm of torque out of this little fuel efficient V6 more that the Jeep 5.7 liter V8 that gets 500nm stock. The parts are cheap too if you buy them from SD-Europarts in San Diego who specialize in Sprinter vans that have the same engines.
