Should I buy another Commander? please help!

So as stated in an earlier post, my 2010 sport was totaled by a reckless driver day before Christmas eve. I found a 2010 Commander Limited 4X4 with 121,125 miles on it. Car fax checks out good, good service records, no corrosion (southern car) no dings, dents or scratches. Was garage kept, has a nicer interior than my old one. But it has the Hemi V8 which worries me on gas mileage. Can anyone tell me what kind of MPG they get? I am able to get a 24/24 Comprehensive warranty from Zurich for $2057 so that puts me somewhat at ease. My old one had 135,000 on it when it was killed. I never had a major repair, just wear and tear. I am just having doubts about buying a car that is 6 years old with that kind of mileage. What do you think? We love the boxy style of the Commander and that it sits up higher than newer SUV's that are similar. We had planned on keeping our last one forever (just like the old Land cruisers you see on the road) Let me know your thoughts ASAP. Got to make a decision in 2 days. Thanks.

I have two Commanders. One has the 4.7 V8 and the other one has a Hemi.

I do not notice any real difference in the mpg. Renae drives the Hemi like a little old lady and it does have MDS which might help. I think she gets around 14 to 16 mpg according to the onboard readout.

I would guess that the issue of the number of miles on the odometer is more dependent on how well the maintenance schedule was followed. I only have about 60K on mine and Renae has about 90K on hers so I cannot comment much on the mileage. I had the water pump replaced on Renae's because it was leaking at the gasket and it made sense to just replace it with a new one. I do not recall any mechanical repairs on mine yet.

Similar to you I plan on keeping them both for a long time. I am retired so the mileage accumulates more slowly than a daily driver.

Good Luck on whatever you do.

Can you maintain both Commanders in case you bought it? i think there's nothing wrong with having 2 commanders. the important thing there is if you really want it.

Thanks

Thanks Huey, I posted a thread on here about 3.5 years ago when I bought my last Commander about building a storage box in place of the 3rd row seat. I think I got the idea from you? I recall you made one out of aluminum? Nice to see you're still on here.

When you get into a vehicle of this size and shape, there isn't a tremendous difference in mileage between engines. The hemi doesn't work as hard as the other two engines, and it does have MDS for the highway. So if you had a 3.7L in your Sport, you'll likely see 1-2 mpg drop overall, depending on how you drive and if you lift it or put bigger tires on it. If you had a 4.7 the difference will likely be less. I got ~20mpg highway stock at 60mph, with the lift and bigger tires it's more like 16-17. In town is in the 12s or lower, but I don't drive like a grandma. I'm only at 107k, but for the 20k miles I've owned it, it's been really good to me, only requiring a thermostat gasket and sway bar bushings.
