Thoughts @ 6k miles in a few months

I have had my Commander for a few months. I live in Dallas and I have driven to Arkansas, down to San Antonio, and over to Lubbock. 6k miles in a few months!

I do have to say this is the best vehicle I have ever owned. I have not had anything go wrong yet (knock on wood). The Jeep is really comfortable on long drives, and the 4x4 is amazing. I got into some deep mud, and steep slick roads in Arkansas with no issues at all. I never even had to put it into 4x4 low. The automatic 4x4 seems to do better than I needed.

The gas mileage is not that great, but I never expected it to be. If I wanted good gas mileage I would buy a crossover vehicle and stay on the roads

I will be towing my boat this weekend, for my first towing experience. I doubt I will even be able to feel the bass boat back there!

I just thought I would share!

I have an 08 Commander Overland 4x4 with the HEMI

Glad to hear that you are liking your XK. I definitely love mine. Have you thought about putting some All Terrain tires since you go through mud and slick roads? I changed my tires out at 11,000 miles and am glad I did. I love my ATs.

just coming up to 6K miles in mine (well 6K for me the Jeep is on nearly 14.5K)
and how has it been, absolutely superb.

probably the best vehicle I have owned to date, has towed boats regular and been on the beach a few times.sadly my camera wasn't with me on the beach.

been off road for work a few times before the move into the city and it coped well.

heres to the next 6K

It is always great to hear from people on how well the XK is working for them. I have about 7,000 miles on mine and love it as well.

I've had mine for almost 6 months now, and have just under 3k on it. I swapped out my Fortera's for the BFG's when I hit 700 miles. Put the lift on with 600 miles on it. So everything that I should've found out within the first few thousand months about ride comfort and gas mileage is... kinda out the window. Ha.

I still love it, and stand by the fact that this is by far the best vehicle I've ever owned. Suits my every need... except for the whole gas guzzler thing, but as you said, I, too, never expected great gas mileage.

As 49er said, it's always good to hear when people are happy with their XKs.

Yes, I plan on changing the tires. I want to wear these down some first. Get some value out of them. On my old 4x4 truck I swore by BFG All-terrains, and I am going to use them on my XK as well.

I,m just coming up on a year and just passed 12k.Unusually high mileage for me but I had a couple of unscheduled trips to New Orleans to help out my dad.Just did my third tire rotation and fourth oil change.Forteras only measure about 1 1/2 thousanths wear at this time.I'd say on track for 40 to 50k tread life at this wear rate taking into consideration the tread wears faster after the first 50% is gone.I have the 4.7 and exreience no measurable oil consumption between changes.Only mod;I made my own 1/2 inch front end lift.I just couldn't get used to that stink bug look[my term]
My $.02

Ill have had the Commander for a year next month. So far I have 18K on the odemeter due to frequent visits back home to NY. I rotate my tires every 6,000 miles (every other oil change) and I barely have any tread wear on the stock Tires. I have a feeling if I wanted to I could make them last a long time. I have had then In deep mud a few times and they performed decent. Either that or it's just because I was In a Jeep and in the mud, who knows. Anyways welcome to the forums. You will love it here!
