Bad Interior Fuse Box

Is it even possible to have a "bad interior fuse box"?? After reading several threads, it makes more sense to be a bad Park Assist Module. My quandary is that I trust my technician BUT a bad interior fuse box? Took it in because I was getting intermittent dead battery issues that turned in to needing to jump start any time it sat 4 hours. All the while, I am getting "Service Park Assist" and radio/gauges/dummy lights on dash cutting out (but engine never stopped nor did I lose power steering/brakes). Anyone have input??

The fuse box is a fairly simple device, there is nothing to wear out. If a circuit overloaded and overheated, which the fuse should blow to prevent that, I guess its possible some damage or melting of insulation could occur and cause shorts, but its NOT often that happens, its usually somewhere else, like at the switches that happens.

The Dash Lights cutting in/out are associated with a bad ignition switch, there have been several posts about that.

But the radio has RAP that lets it play for a few minutes even after the ignition is turned off, so I can't imagine how it would cut out for a bad ignition switch. Unless you have the RAP set in configuration for zero minutes.

There is a ignition of draw fuses in the underhood fuse box, that power all these things.

As well, a bad ground, loose or corroded could cause this dash cut/in out.

Well then...

So not likely to be a completely bad fuse box then.

When I said radio cut off, i meant the screen went black and sound cut out same time the gauges and dash lights did same thing. Not like when you take key out and radio stays on until you open the door.

So now the question is: Bad ignition switch (which wold be fixed by P41 recall) or maybe bad PArk Assist Module. Is there a test that I can do to confirm?

When my park assist module went bad, I had a few indications that it was bad.
All of the red/amber park assist module lights in the back wouldn't come on as they should - I was just getting a single amber light.

I also wasn't get that quick series of beeps when you are backing up & getting too close to something. I was just getting one steady beep and nothing beyond that.

The third indication was that my park assist module would just turn itself off and I would get the dash indication that my park assist was disabled.

My P.A. module was also shorting out, which I think is the reason it was disabling itself and causing other random electrical issues, such as one of my turn signals occasionally going out and my remote start occasionally would not work. That all cleared up when I replaced the park assist module.

If you have not had the P41 recall done yet, I would do that first and get that ignition switch replaced - it's free anyway.

Once that's done, then see if your other electrical issues have cleared up or not, then you can go from there.

The inside fuses are part of the "Junction Block" It is also full of relays and many many functions go through the "Junction Block" Possibly the service guy just called it the fuse block instead of it's right name to keep it simple.

Cabin Fuse Box/Junction Block

UPDATE: Mechanic explained that they checked everything, including Park Assist Module and Ignition Switch, and found the "cabin Fuse Box" to be the root issue. He said that they saw the corrosion and everything between the two circuit boards within the assembly. $1100 dealer item according to them but I cannot find any part called "Interior Fuse Box" or "Cabin Fuse Box". I would love to try finding a replacement but need to know what the actual part is called.
Thank you for all the input!!!

RBLAPHAM: is the "8W 12" a part number that I can search for?

Just a note to self that if you are going to have the dealer do the P 41 recall and they are going to flash the XK, then with someone from the dealer watching I would check the operation of your 4WD LO before the flash and right after, as all of a sudden you don't have LO and it was not documented as working before the flash you have NO PROOF it ever did work, and that it was taken out by the flash/code clear.

Just a thought

You might want to check out the P73 recall thread (link below) which deals with reprogramming the final drive control module.

https://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/...73-recall.html

I believe this is the recall that covers the 4WD-LO issue that you are referring to.

Thank you for all the input!!!

RBLAPHAM: is the "8W 12" a part number that I can search for?
The 8W 12 is a schematic on page 8W 12 - not a part number. The "junction Block" is the part that they want to change which has the fuses on it. Had another post about the Junction Block and how to change it on this forum. Price was about $165 and not too hard to replace.
See this thread for the replacing of the Junction Block - post 14 and up
