Commanders could come with a Tow Hitch as an option, if you had that option you would see the tow hitch.
What looks like a cover on the rear bumper is just a shape molded into the rear bumper, if you buy the mopar tow hitch kit, you'll understand why they molded it in, cause you just cut that portion of the bumper out to expose the mopar tow hitch. The kit comes with a flat black bezel that you attach to the cut out portion of the bumper to make it look really nice.
Ok, if you open your owner's manual (O.M.) you'll find there are several towing figures for you vehicle. Depending on engine and if you have the factory tow package or NOT. The factory tow package is more than just the hitch, it has special springs and shocks in the rear suspension to handle the tongue weight, etc... So, unless you're going to spend a lot of money to install everything that came in the factory tow package, you need to go with the TOW figures for none factory tow package.
Yes, get the Mopar TOW Hitch, its reasonably priced and easiest to install and has that bezel that will make the cut out of the rear bumper look like it came from the factory. Installing the TOW Hitch will require removing the rear bumper Fascia, you just can't get the hardware installed with it on, despite it looking like there might be enough room to do it with the bumper on. There are plastic rivets that attach the rear fascia at a few points, you'll need new ones of these to install, many auto stores have them, but kinda hard to find, you'd want to make sure you get them before starting the job.
You'll need a light kit, NO, don't get the Mopar Light Kit, its actually harder to install than most aftermarket T-connectors, and the Mopar Kit won't work until you bring it back to the Dealer and pay them to use the WiTech Machine to reconfigure modules to make it work. The aftermarket wiring kits are cheaper, easier to install and don't require an additional expensive visit to the Dealer service department to get it too work, and they work just the same.
