Very interesting concept... be interesting to see how they do in the real world, with mud, dirt, frost, water etc, getting caught in the 'honeycomb', but they sure look like a decent set of off roaders!

The Michelin Tweel is very similar too...

After reading your comments and then looking at the picture I was thinking the exact same thing as you. Saying to myself "They are right, this is a bad design and will just collect mud". Then I was thinking to myself "there is no way they spent all of this time and money and did not consider this, they must have a cover to put on the sides" (god think of the horrible designs people will put on those, a new evolution of gaudy gangsta rims for DH)

Sure enough, there is a very large discussion about the mud already at the bottom with some great points!

Either way, a great idea for military and government road/escort vehicles

Just wondering how it can manage the tension and pressure of off-roading.

Saw a program on these tires and one of the big issues with this design is the amount of noise they generate. At highway speeds they make a constant loud sound very much like shuffling a deck of cards. Kind of annoying.

This concept has been around a few years. The consumer versions would look like a regular tire - rubber sidewalls. All the promos show them uncovered so you can see the technology.
