Help or advice installing a remanufactured 3.7L V-6 in a 2006 XK Sport.

@vcoelho is asking for help and advice and has posted her contact phone number below; The following is her post;

Hi Forum Members

I joined the forum a couple of weeks ago and then blew out the engine of my 2006 Jeep Commander 3.7L. I am intending to order a reman (re-manufactured) engine and a set of gaskets to go with it. If someone has personal experience of installing a reman in their vehicle please could you get in touch by texting 602-697-2613. I am primarily interested in where you got your engine, what it cost, and most importantly, what your experiences were in completing the install.

I am also very keen to know any pitfalls along the way, where you needed to do rework and any specific do's and donts. This will be the first and I also hope the last engine I have to drop in to a Commander.

Thanks, Vivian

So I'm in the beginning process of doing the same but for a 2010. You can do a remanufactured engine, but be aware of the pros and cons of both.

Reman:
Pros: basically new.
If you make sure the valve seat issue is fixed in the reman process, that won't be a concern anymore.
Cons: much more expensive,
You could end up with a crap builder.

Used pull out motor:
Pros: much cheaper,
Found everywhere,
Easy to find "relatively" low miles (70kish)
Cons: valve seat issue remains for your year
You don't know how well maintenance schedules were adhered to.

The above is not all inclusive, but you should be able to find reman engines for $1k-2k. Doing the swap shouldn't be too difficult if you're mechanically inclined. I hear Jasper does REALLY good remans, but are on the pricier side, I'd look them up anyway. Alternatively though, there are tons of 3.7's from wrecked liberties you can find for your year, as well as the option to just buy a liberty from copart or similar, then junk the car for some of your money back.

Removing the engine can be a real pain, although I think the 4.7 is harder than the 5.7.

Just so you know, the 3.7 I'm working on is my sister in laws commander. Mine came with a 4.7 that I took out for a 6.1, which is dimensionally the same as a 5.7, and required a 5.7 conversion. so I've got a bit of experience with all the commanders.
