Oil light comes on after restarting hot car

I have an '07 with close to 90,000. I bought the jeep in May and have put about 2500 miles on the car. During the first 1000 miles the light came on when I started the are after driving in stop and go traffic. So the car was pretty hot but not overheating. The oil was full and clean. After the car had cooled for and 1 1/2 hours the light did not come on. So now after putting another 1500 miles on the car, the same thing has happened. Oil is still clean and full. I had no place to go last night so this morning the car was cold and the light did not come on. My commute is 4 miles, so the car really has no change to get to operating temperature.

So the big question, what is the problem. I am guessing oil pressure switch might be going. I am also surprised that the jeep uses a light oil at 5w20. The air temp yesterday was around 85 degrees.

Not sure about the sensors on the 3.7, but I know the ones in the 5.7 are kinda common to fail. And they fail in all sorts of different ways sending all sorts of different signals.
My OEM one failed and sent (2) DTC codes that pointed right at the pressure switch. I replaced with an aftermarket and after about 1k miles I started getting a Low Oil Pressure DTC, but no oil pressure light. I put a new OEM Mopar sensor in and have been fine since. I learned on here that the aftermarket switches are even more common to fail, and you should just always fork out a little bit more $$ and just get the Mopar one.

You might have the original one that has failed, you might have an aftermarket brand from previous owner that has also failed....you might have something totally different because the 3.7s are different than the 5.7s as far as oil stuff goes
I don't know what kind of oil pump system the 3.7 uses....

I would think the 5w20 is also a carry-over from the 5.7 engines requiring it, just so all 3 engines need the same oil type.

2006 Dark Khaki Limited, Hemi, QD-II w/ all the options.
Inertia Performance Heads, Full SRT 6.1 Valve Train, Custom Crower Cam, Double Roller Timing Set, Trend Performance forged Pushrods, High PSI Oil Pump, ARH Long Tube Headers and Mids, Borla Catback, aFe Stage 2 Intake, AEM X-Series WB UEGO & 100psi Oil Guages, PowerStop Drilled & Slotted Rotors, MDS On Light, Kenwood in-dash Nav, HID Projectors and full LED lighting upgrade

Need to get it on a dyno....

I know 5w20 is the normal oil used in Jeep's 3.7L V-6 & 4.7L V-8 because I have owned both. I didn't know they used it in the Hemi as well.

Since your oil light came on, I would think you had a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) generated in your EVIC; Have you seen one show up?

The 5.7s require 5w20 for the MDS....thought you knew that, Blue!!

Good call on looking for DTCs...I should have asked about that considering it's exactly what happened to me...

I knew about the MDS, I didn't know that was the reason why the Hemi's used 5W20. Unfortunately, I don't know as much as I would like to, particularly where the Hemi's are concerned.

did you get a red oil pressure light or orange engine check light?

do you have a code scanner? the evic is your message center on the dash to the right of your mileage and gear selector display.

I just went through this on my hemi. oil pressure light would flicker and the dash would ding every time i would come to a stop. after a day of that, solid check engine light.
replaced my sensor and all is ok now.
