Seating for 6 passengers

We had all the kids out tonight to McDonald's and tried to figure the best way to seat them all.

We ended up leaving the second row seat behind the driver folded down, and the baby seat in the middle.

Worked great as it's easy in and out for the two in the very back , my oldest son is almost 6 feet tall and with the seat folded down he was still able to sit in the very back and have good leg room.

We routinely do 100-miler trips with 4 adults and 2 kids. 1 is 6 years old, car seat in the very back. 1 is 6 months old, car seat in center of 2nd row. 2 adults in front, 2 in 2nd row. That leaves 1 seat down in the 3rd row for a short pile of cargo. No comfort complaints from anybody. Sure beats taking 2 cars. Now when our friends (the 2nd couple) finally have their kid it might get tight in the car...

My wife and I often go places with my sister, brother in law, and their two kids. The kids are both in their teens and they have no problem sitting in the 3rd row. It is incredible the room there is even with 6-7 people in the commander.

Haven't done 7 yet, but had 6 adults in the Commander, no big complaints either, but I was taking them out to lunch so I guess they wouldn't complain!

This is true, As long as you were taking me someplace to eat then you could tie me to the roof and I wouldn't care.

My wife and four daughters love the commander, they fight about who gets to sit the the 3rd row. I do end up helping the youngest two (ages 4 and 6) out of the back when they sit there. We have the last one due in April, so I'll have it maxed out soon. Should be fun fitting 2 boosters and a car seat, but I'm sure it will be ok.

I was thrilled when Jeep introduced the Commander. We regularly travel with four adults and three kids and we need that third row. My father in law and I sit in the front (the lap of luxury!), Mother in Law, my seven year old daughter (on a booster seat), and my wife fit into the middle row. And the third row is occupied by my sons 12 and 10 years old, the older one is about 5 feet tall and around 90 pounds. This usually is around town, but we have traveled that from Philly to Hartford (250 miles). Everyone is pretty comfortable. It is a tighter fit than the old minivan, but the tiered seating and the moon roofs more than compensate.

Any luggage goes up on the roof rack, which needs to be covered because when we travel rain or snow is inevitable. So loading and unloading takes a bit more effort and that falls on my shoulders, but to get out of a minivan, it was a small price to pay.

Sure its a snug fit, comfortably so, those monster SUVs like the Expeditions and Suburbans may provide more wiggle room, but they wouldn't squeeze into my garage and I'd hate to take them into Philly and try to find a parking spot. I gotta confess a smirk when I see all the paint and scars on the parking garage walls, you can be sure they weren't left by a Commander.
