Trail Cleanup - 1/10/09

Saturday morning, headed into the forest for some trail cleanup. Didn't have my camera on me, so I just snapped a few with the cell phone... pardon the crappy quality.

Managed to fill the Patriot with about 10 bags or so of mostly glass bottles.

Before heading out to drop off the trash, we passed a pile of carcasses. Among them, as you can see, was a black bear, and a coyote. I can mark this up as the closest I've ever been, and hope to ever BE, to either of these types of animals. Ha.

Simply a reminder: If you want to get out and enjoy the outdoors, do your part in trying to keep it clean.

I really admire what you are doing ,,,,

When we go camping we bring big trash bags and keep all trash in it, especially the plastic items which will last for good and don't decompose.

When I take my scout trip camping, the last thing we do before we pull out is form a long line and walk through the entire area picking up anything that is not nature regardless of who left it.

You guys are doing a stellar job. Back home in Scotland, we used to do this at the weekends to keep the highlands looking beautiful...

Great job ... it makes us all look better ... brings back some memories ...

... when I was a kid in the Army cadets we had virtualy unlimited manpower for trail cleanups ... we could go in with 250 - 300 guys on a weekend and litteraly haul out 3 to 4 TONS of garbage.

Some of the hiking trails you just can't get a vehicle of any kind down (we're talking sections with rope bridges, cliffside walking paths, etc) .. the garbage just keeps building up if no-one packs it out.

We go in with a dozen 6X6 2 1/2ton trucks at each end of the trails and walk in with frame packs and garbage bags ... take a break when we met half way for lunch and double check each other work on the way out and fill up the trucks .. the crappy part was riding back with all that garbage

I think it's awesome that you do that. Why someone would not take their garbage with them is beyond me.

Did you find the carcusses together like that? Like they killed each other?

Carcasses were together, but they were along with about 10 deer carcasses as well. Don't think it was as exciting as it could've been (fight to the death). Ha.

Game warden is actually going to check out the bear, as it appears to have been an illegal kill.

We can all do our part in conserving nature by leaving nothing but footprints and taking nothing but pictures. God gave it to us and let us be in charge of it and I don't want to let him down. He is our Father.
