Talking New Buyer 06'/07' Commander...

Greetings folks,

New to the forums and new Commander fan here. I've gone through 3 Jeep Cherokees and am now looking to move onto the Commander. This past weekend I went to a dealership with full intention to nab a Rubicon and accidentally stumbled upon the Commander. After test driving it, I'm hooked. To make a long story short I'm on the verge of a purchase, but decided to do a bit more research before taking the plunge. The Commander I looked at this weekend was a Sport w/ 31k miles @ $18k. After digging through the internet I've since found a lot more for a lot cheaper. I even found Limited’s for $17.5k, some with the HEMI engine.

A few questions:
I guess I'm curious as to what prices I should be looking for here (I live in CT, but am also looking in lower MA)?

Is 30k - 40k miles a decent range for an 06' or 07'?

What happens if a Commander is not "Certified"? There is a dealership in lower MA that has about 7 Commanders for sale, but online none have that yellow certified tag. Should I stay well away?

How reliable are Commanders? Decent service record?

Any advice for a new buyer? All my Cherokees have been from 89' to 99', so this will be my first relatively new car purchase.

Thanks!

Do some digging and you will find some great deals. I did a cars.com search from the Boston area and I found an 06 Limited with 22.020 mi for $19.477 at Imperial Chrysler in Mendon MA and an 08 Sport V6 with 12.160 mi for 17.999 at Dans Jeep in Westborough MA. Think about an extended warranty @ Chryslerwarrantys.com. Peace of mind goes along way. Living in the same area I can say it must be a 4x4. It goes through snow better than anything I've ever owned. Good luck and welcome to the forum. Any questions about mods can be answered here, very knowledgable members.

If I get one and the warranty is up(most likely...), I'm buying an extended warranty for sure.
Yes, lots of deals for sure, after you weed thru some of the rip off ads selling V6's for 19k,etc.

I too am a new owner. I was able to find an '06 loaded Limited 5.7 for $15,900. The miles were a little high at 45,000 but I felt like the price was too good to pass up. Just make sure to do your homework (carfax, etc.) and look on this forum for common problems to look for before you buy. The problems/dealer service forum is an incredible tool to have when taking your prospective XK in for it's pre-purchase inspection or on it's test drive. I used to drive GC's as well and am very pleased with the Commander so far. Good luck!

Welcome to the board. I was wondering if you had a CarMax dealership in your area. I recently purchased an 06 4.7 with 23,000 miles. It was only 15K plus you can add warranties, which I did for 5 years or 60,000 miles for only 1600. You can search all the commanders any Carmax dealer has if you want and have them ship it to you.

I considered used, but when they started offering 0% financing, on new, and lifetime drive train warranty, I bought new. That is like a $200 a month bonus!

I was a little concerned with buying a used one with no warrenty, especially the more complicated with all the toys on them. The certified units can come with an 8 year/80k mile drive train warranty I think. Still not like the 3/36 bumper to bumper factory of new.

One thing you need to know, that the dealer is not going to tell you..
The MPG is crap. Mine is averaging 13.5 in the same driving my Tahoe was getting over 16. Probably would have bought it anyway, but ite would have been nice to know, instead of beleiving the 14/17 EPA rating plasted on the car.

tips on 06

Mine's been pretty good maintenance wise.. but, both the front and rear dif's needed work, and the warranty on an 06 is terrible... therefore... make certain that you get some sort of warranty... I wouldn't take an 06 for a test drive without one...
