Heading out to the OBX next weekend...

And I am looking to do some trails. I will be staying here:
http://www.corollaguide.com/
Any suggestions? I have seen several posts about the OBX and the trails on or near the beach. Anyone want to chime in?

This place offers some maps for a trivial cost. I though I would check this out.

Also it looks like there are a lot of jeep rentals.

I love the Outer Banks, particularly Corova Beach, which is north of Corolla, on the beach road. There are lots of roads (trails) off of the main beach road. If it is very dry, you will want to lower the air pressure in your tires and turn off your ESP. I have been up there before and the Jeep would not move in that sand because of the ESP.

I don't have a lot of suggestions, as I generally fish and sit on the beach. I don't like do much other than that when I'm on vacation.

This is my old YJ in 1990 in Corolla.

It's not hard to find the trails. Just go to the end of Rt. 12 and it turns into sand. As you drive up the beach, you can turn into any of the numerous little side trails/roads. I have not seen any decent maps of all these trails and many of them hit dead-ends, so you need to be patient and just enjoy the views! Should be very quiet this time of year - which is great unless you are stuck and need some help. Air down your tires and don't go across the ruts and you should be fine.

My annual trip to Corolla is in August and I'm already counting down the days!

Have a safe trip!! If you want to do those sliders before you head out this week the garage is empty. Not that you really need them or anything..

Thanks Tymac! I am still waiting to get a day where the temps are over 60 degrees so I can put 3-4 coats of the bedliner paint on them!

If you get to the soft sand air down to 20lbs. Take a day a head south across the inlet and past Pea Island and try the real beach. Just watch for the bird clousers. If you enjoy the beach make sure you learn about the fight for free access. Check out OBPA.com
