Strut replacement question

I am going to replace the struts on my 2006 Commander next week and wondered if I need a coil spring compressor for the job? My manual doesn't mention it but some posts on here have. Thanks for any help.

The only manual I could find was a pdf download on Ebay. It was only about $7 and contains almost 8000 pages.
