Rear alxe Question?

Im curious if anyone has had the rear alxe apart on their commander or changed the rear diff cover and happened to know how many splines the rear axle shafts have! It looks like it would be either 27 or 29 splines. If its 29 and its true that the rear is a 8.25 then they do make a rear locker that us QT II guys could use. Its a locker that can be installed with basic hand tools and you dont need to take out the carrier. I installed one on my ranger and would recommned it to everyone. Do you know what locker im talking about??????LOL

Maybe the commander still new to start playing with it and take it apart, the Grand Cherokee is similar, you might find someone took the diff apart in it.

nahhh not exactly....it's a Powertrax No-Slip. They are a lunchbox locker that replaces the spider gears. I installed one on my ford ranger and it was amazing. Doesnt make any noise like a detroit would, yet works amazing off road. They cost around $450 and can be installed in less than an hour. It took me 45 minutes to do mine but im mechanically inclined!

So if anyone is replacing there diff cover soon or replacing fluids and wants to quickly count the axle splines that would be great!~

830AAM = 8.3" American Axle Manufacturers (or something like that). Its not an 8.25". Many peope just say (and assume) it is since its so close. Front is 790AAM = 7.9". As for spline count I am 99% sure its a 29 spline axle shaft for the rear at least. Dont get it twisted, this is NOT an 8.25 otherwise we would see others using the few lockers the 8.25 guys use. There is a reason why AEV even settled for the electronic factory units in their Commander. At the time there wasnt anything else offered.

All 4x4 Commanders have a Chrysler Corporate C213R rear axle also known as the 8 1/4" (the front axle is a Chrysler Corporate C200F). 213 is the ring gear diameter in mm and the front is 200 mm

Im not sure where you came up with the 830AAM because i know thats defiantely a Chrysler Corporate axle~

Are you sure about it not being a Chrysler Corporate 8.25? The online parts document for the 07 commander called it the 8.25 in the rear.

Did we ever determine if it was a 29 spline axle shaft? I finally got the word back from ARB and they said their air locker would work if it is a 29 spline.

They are definitely 8.25's - that's been clarified on more recent threads. About the 29 spline, I don't know. I did take this photo when my cover was off this week - not sure if it helps...

Yes it is a Chrysler Corporate 8.25 in the rear!

I updated my old posts that stated othewise.

Is that locker for a c-clip axle or non c-clip axle?
