5100 question!!

Hey everyone. My first post here, looking to level the front of my commander out, and am seeing that the 5100's might be a good option to get new shocks and achieve the leveled out look. Is this possible with stock springs? Also, not seeing them anywhere that say they fit the commander. I know some of you are running this, do you happen to have a part number I can use? Thank you!

I'm a little confused as to why you want to switch out your rear shocks to level your Commander out when stock Commanders sit low in the front and higher in the rear.

If you are just looking to level your Commander out, you simply need to raise the front about an inch to an inch and a half.

You could change your front springs - or you could just add spacers to your front struts/springs.

Remember, Commanders have struts in the front and shocks in the rear.

Bilstein's website says their 5100 rear shocks do not fit Commanders - but they do.

This is the part number for the 5100's I'm running: 33-225807.

Yes, you can run 5100's with stock springs.

But again these Bilstein 5100 rear shocks will do nothing to level out your Commander if you are currently sitting on stock suspension components.

Rough Country sells a kit specifically for leveling out Commanders.

Their 2 inch lift kit is a load-leveling lift kit - which is what I'm running.

Hey Blue! First off thanks for the greeting and the helpful links. Second I am not looking to lift the rear, apologies for the confusion. I do want to level out the front, but do not really want to use a spacer. Would prefer to run the 5100's since I hear great things about them.

So just to reiterate I will be fine with the 5100's and stock springs up front to level out the rig? Also, what setting do you recommending i use for them? The middle setting?

Unfortunately I can't answer that question for you.

I'm running Bilstein B6 4600 struts in the front.

No apology necessary Jonathon.

When I hear 5100's I just assume rear shocks right away - because that's what the majority of guys around here run from what I have read, so, just it was just a bad assumption on my part.

I love it; I've been running it for 2 years with no issues at all.

Wow you can really see the difference there. Did you install yourself? I am looking at the instructions and it does not seem like a very hard install. Just a little shy on using spring compressors when putting the strut back in. Seen those fail many times

Also, did you reuse your stock springs when you went with the 4600's up front?

I did not do it myself; I took it to a 4x4 shop, between parts and labor it cost me about $620.00

I am working outside of my home state, so, I don't have alot of resources here in Virginia.

I have some hand tools here to tackle some of the smaller jobs myself, but, I wouldn't try to mess with the suspension.

Yes, I am running the stock springs with the 4600's in the front.

I am running the slightly heavier Hemi-rated rear coil springs (Part # 52124213AA & 52124214AA) in the back with the 5100's but you can run them with the stock rear springs as well.

I am running 5100's with stock front springs. I ran them @ 1.5" initially with no real rear lift and now have them set @ 2" with ROR strut spacers and '2"' ROR rear springs. Those rear springs are more like 1.5" btw.
