Rear Passenger Strut Leak

So here's my deal... Stock suspension and no real off roading (occasional beach driving and pulling a pop up camper). Jeeps got 41K miles and my rear passenger shock is leaking. Stock pair will run my $100.23 shipped to the house and Blistein F4-BE5-D722-H0 pair $129.47 shipped to the house... Do you guys think it's worth the extra 30 to go for the Blisteins?

Because of your usage I don't see much point in spending more money for an aftermarket shock.
Often, the ride quality will degrade due to the internal valving of the high performance shock and this may be a turnoff to you.

You asked for opinions, I'd say stick with the original equipment.

Great, thanks! The only reason I ask is because of the low mileage on the stock shock... I just didn't think a shock should give out that quickly with mild useage. Thanks again Rob!

Maybe you could find something in between stock and high performance? Shockguys is a supporting vendor on the forum and something tells me they might know about shocks.

Just my .02 but for just a little more money why not get the better shocks. Especially if you decide to lift the XK down the road. The stock shocks are garbage.

For off road service I agree with 07. The factory shock is out of its element of design.
I think garbage is a bit strong wording.
It is fine for its designed usage.
Adamag, there is no question that Shockguys are a good resource, although they likely are biased towards the products they sell.
Since spryan81 indicates he currently has no suspension mods planned, operates within the design parameters of the stock unit, and indicates no ride or handling complaints, there really is no reason for him to potentally create a damping conflict by installing a higher duty cycle set of rear shocks while staying with the standard duty cycle front shocks.
The potental of having to replace front shocks for the sole purpose of matching the now firmer rear shocks presents itself.
40 to 50 k on a set of shocks is the norm in pothole strewn America, and those holes are usually on the right side of the lane, so, it's not unusual to see the right side fail before the left side.
I understand your positions Adamag and 07, and if the OP had any intentions of future mods I would be right with you both as far as suggesting upgrades in preparation.
But he is not, so, I still recommend OE.

I guess I can agree with you.
When I made that comment I was refering to as being garbage once the XK is lifted. Thats why I was saying that if he plans on a lift to go with the better shocks. I guess I should have worded it a little better.

I'd Definatley get the Blisiens.

I've purchased several vehicles and had to do struts or shocks ASAP ... what happnes is if they never see any hard use some corrosion occurs on the shock shaft (especialy stock ones) .. then the first big bump that gets hit colapses the shock past the coroded portion and blows the seals.

I don't know if that's what hapned to yours or not of course just something I have observed

Yeah, unfortunately, this is the wifes daily driver and she doesn't want me messing with the suspension at all. I had a lowered S-10 and she hated it so I'll just have to modify my own daily when I upgrade in a few months. Either gonig with a WK or a JK so the mods can start once I get that... Thanks guys!
