Extending the wheel base

has anyone extended the rear axle out on thier xk? I saw that aev had done this by 5" to the one they built, but I can't find a kit for it.

Nope, AEV is the only one that has done this mod so far. I might do something similar in the future but it wouldnt be 5 inches.

good luck with that mod.

you will need:

longer brake lines

new custom fender flares

new control arms

new drive shaft

move the panhard bar

move the coil spring mounts

cut into the rear subframe

redo the wiring for the brakes and sensors on the axle.

The brake lines, fenders flares, and control arms shouldn't be that hard to get. Its moving the panhard bar and coils that will be a lot of work. Obviously it's got to be possible since AEV has done it but will take a lot of fabbing and $$$$.

What is the reason behind you wanting to extend the rear axle??

I am putting 35"s on a 2.25" lift, in the back the tire is to close to the rear doors. If you can set the axle back maybe as little as 3"s it will center the tire better. This is not a mod for those shy of chopping up thier new commander, a lot of cutting is needed and fender flares which i can seem to find either.

Good luck putting 35's on your commander with just a 2.25 inch lift because there is no way there going to fit. I barely fit 32's with my lift and had to bend over the pinch weld and reshape the front inner plastic fender well. Apperently you have not done your research yet.

lol I will post pics when it's done, the process is going to require fender flairs which will be made of fiberglass. I will have a mold to reproduce these which I may sell. I will post pics when I have them, may be about 2-3 weeks I will post pics of them as well. After trial fitting a 35" on it doesn't look like extending the rear out will be needed.

I still say good luck with this project. I can see you making it work with the 4 inch superlift since it will give that extra clearance needed in the front wheel well but not with a spacer lift. What are you plans for the pinch weld area on the rear portion of the front fender wells? I bent mine completely over and almost still make contact with it and I only have 32's.

Now dont get me wrong Im not saying there is no way you not going to be able to put 35's on your XK. Im just saying without more lift its not going to be practical. You might be able to hack up the Commander so you have no rubbing while driving down the street, but as soon as you take it off road I think your going to be rubbing bad.

work has me slammed haven't had time to do much, I am ordering the mats for the fiberglass fenders this week end, the back will be a fiberglass flair both will be a larger relica of the factory flairs. I shyed away from bush wackers style. I want to keep a stock look. It's going to be awhile before this project is ready. About the only thing I am really conserned about is the back durring for flex. I may add a hydrolic bumb stop in there to keep me from sending the tire into the fender when fully flexed. I will post some youtube video's of the fenders when they are done. I have to wait for the stuff to get here so may be a few weeks just for the flairs o_0 I am really bummed out by the lack of aftermarket for the commander. I long travel IFS kit would be amazing, if someone doesn't make one soon I may fab one using a FOA coil over all the way around. The list is to long of thing to do and not enough time
