Kingston Peak Colorado Aug 1,2010

The family and I decided to finish our trip we started one month earlier but ran into a large snow field blocking the trail. Tire tracks are visible but they must have been from long ago because on the day we were there the snow was so soft a couple of jumps and your boots would sink down a few inches, the snow bank was about 4ft deep here.

Start of in Rollinsville south of Nederland. Up the road is the Tolland tunnel. A large train tunnel that cuts through the Continental Divide. I dont see much Military equipment so I get Excited when I do and up here it happens pretty often.

Off in the distance is where were headed.

In this photo you can see a glimpse of the trail as it follows the ridge.

Pics from along the way

In this one the storms are starting to build as we get closer to the summit and noon. Those who live in Colorado knows what tends to happen after noon during the summer months...anything!

Final push to the top. This section was the most challenging, loose rock, ruts, large rocks and very steep in spots...But I got no pictures showing any of that. One of these days I'll have a sucker along to walk and take pictures.

This Photo is while driving in the valley atop of Kingston, This section was so bone jarring. Just the right size rocks allover to rock you left-right-left-left and so on. We crawled at a snails pace over this section.

After Climbing back out of the valley we reached the Loch Lomond overlook and the Rock House

My wife showing my son the lake.

My Wife Son and Daughter exploring the rock house.

All the rocks have been layed and stacked by vistors traveling this trail. All passerby are encouraged to bring a rock, write your name on it to help build the house.

AND....my daughter loves pizza, (hint hint Dad)

Had to throw this in.

The trip down was pretty uneventful

They call this The Enchanted Forest.

We came out in the small town of Alice Kinda west of Idaho Springs, Once in Idaho Springs we Aired up and had a great lunch at Beau Jo's Pizza.

If anyone has the opportunity to drive this trail I would recommend going the direction we did. Starting in Rollinsville and ending in Alice, I loved the challenges the climbs offered and I dont feel it would be as fun going down them. This trail was really fun with great views, it's one we'll definitely do again.

Thanks For Looking,
Brian
