HID's powered by wall converter

So I am working on a school project that I would like to integrate an HID bulb in- kind of like a lantern on steroids. I have concluded that batteries are going to be either too big or too expensive, so am looking to power the system with a simple wall converter. Would love to hear from anyone electronically inclined if this will work.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

So knowing that on here things don't exist without photo proof, I thought I'd share my latest creation, an HID Lantern.

Hand raised copper, brass fixtures, frosted glass, power source, and a 10,000 K HID assembly.

As some say, Paul Revere meets Tony Stark.

Thanks! I wound up using the computer power cord originally in question. Packed the ballast and HID guts into the base of the lamp, with a corresponding female connector for the power cord to connect.

Anxious to see what the lifespan of the ballast is when contained in tight quarters, or the bulb when used in a vertical position...

Somewhere down the line I'd still like to build one with a battery, but not for awhile.
