New [email protected]@$$ XK in town TUBE DOORS

Hello all,

None of you know me, but I feel like I know a lot of you. I have read hundreds and hundreds of posts as I built my XK over the last years. I want to personally thank all of you for contributing your knowledge and experience and for building a great resource community. I was able to do a ton of mods without asking one question. That's a testament to all your work here. If it weren't for you, I'd have never been able to build my XK into what it is today. So for real... Thank you!

Looks awesome!

How hard is it to go from doors to tube doors?

That's definitely a different look you have going on.

But to be completely honest, I can't say that I care for the open/tube doors very much.

Best of luck with it.

How did you mount your top light bar? I've been looking for something for a while and can't find mounts for a Commander. I've been dragging my feet fabbing some hoping for some already made.

Thanks!

Thanks for the comments! When I get time, i'm going to do a tut on the light bar install and tube door install/removal vid.

The doors aren't terrible. I have the Boston Acoustics pckge and Jeep put quick disconnects under the rubber boots for me. I put some cheap HF anchors in two studs in my garage, put the doors on a furniture mover with casters, and roll them into the garage. Then i chock the casters and use bungy cables to secure the doors to the HF anchors. Each door is held onto the hinges by four 13mm nuts. If I get time I'll do a video.

Thanks for you honest opinion. I can't say I disagree. It's not a sexy look by any means, but it's a whole bunch of fun to roll around like that. Great convo starter. I may do the back doors and that may help with the looks.. but for now two full doors take up a ton of space in my garage, and i'm not sure I want to store four. The rear tire carrier bothers me a little too. It sticks out too far, because of the drop hitch. But I hated taking the tire carrier off everytime i wanted to move my trailer. Now that I'm getting more confident in my fab skills (tube doors came out good).. I may build myself a rear carrier bumper (If my wife doesn't kill me when I bring it up).

I used the universal CARR light mount bar (link below). It's made for stud mounted solo lights, but I drilled my own holes for the LED bar in the cross bar. The CARR light mount screws into the door jams, which is scary.. but if you paint after you drill and silicon the daylights out of it (underneath the mount) you should be good. I used mopar red ridge perl touch up aresol (eBay). I mounted two seperate switches on both sides of the radio bezel for each bar. It's like turning on the sun in the middle of the woods. Love it.
