New to the forum. Front Dif

Need a little help here. I have a 2006 commander and the front dif is going out. Are there any videos or suggestions to make this a little bit easier to replace? Would it be easier to rebuild or replace? Thank you for the help.

Dubbs1977;

Welcome to the forum;

You've really made a half-baked request for help here and given us virtually no useful information;

Click on and read the link below and please provide us all the relevant information;

https://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/...e-posting.html

Now in addition to that, I'll ask you some questions;

How did you come to the conclusion that front differential is going out?

What specific sypmtoms/issues are you experiencing?

Are any DTC's being generated?

What's the history of your XK?

How long have you owned it?

Have you had any other issues leading up to this?

And to answer your initial question, if your front differential is truly going bad; a rebuild is your only option;

You can not buy new differentials for Commanders any more.

I took my 06 commander to the mechanic and watched him pull the cover. It was full of metal shavings. It was making a loud grinding noise. No DTCs are being pulled relating to this issue. I have had my commander for 6 years and in the last 2 years the thing has been falling apart. I put a new motor in it last year. My dash is lit up like a Christmas tree and the only codes that i'm pulling are for the passenger front wheel speed sensor. I have replaced both sides and can not get the codes to clear.

Do you mean the you can't clear the codes or do they keep coming back?
One way to clear them is to pull the battery neg cable for about 5 minutes and reconnect. Of course you will have to reset a lot of things like radio stored selections, etc.

06 Commander Limited Hemi - QDII,
Past -89 Comanche, 98 Grand Cherokee (2WD), 2000 Cherokee, 05 Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7
Had to replace the brakes - they opened more gas stations in town

Dubbs;

Like I said previously, pertaining to your front differential; a rebuild is your only option; You can not buy new differentials for Commanders any more.

I have taken the negative battery cable off and left it off for over an hour and it is still lit up. The bas/esp, traction control and abs lights are all on. The only code that is pulling is for the front passenger wheel speed sensor still
