Leaking from rear passenger wheel

Hey everyone. Was just wanting input on what you thought it could be. Brakes or wheel bearing or an axle seal? I?m unsure. It?s leaking a very oil substance which is now on my wheel tire and breaks. The fresh stuff is very oily with a green/black hue and the old stuff is very greasy and black. This is not the best picture but hopefully you can see a bit. It?s conpletely coating the rim and now dripping down the tire. And you can see it on the back of the brakes.

Emma, Welcome to the forum.

First thing I would check is the brake fluid level if that is normal, I would check the read differential fluid and go from there. Could be a bad seal in the caliper or a rear axle seal.

Since this is your first post and before you get yelled at, please go back and fill out the mandatory questionnaire, which i guess is not really a Mandatory questionnaire, in the new member forum. I am sure others will chime in with more suggestions.

Welcome to the forum;

Brake fluid is my first guess as well, I would definitely check your brake fluid reservoir level right away and add some brake fluid if needed.

I'd recommend taking your Commander in somewhere to get that checked out sooner rather than later; last thing you need is to hit the brakes and have your brake pedal go straight to the floor and not be able to stop.

The questionnaire Creek mentioned should be part of your profile info Emma and it should display underneath your username and look something like this when you're done;

Okay. I found it on my profile and made the changes. Though Iím not going to lie I do not know the 4WD system.

I check my brake fluid and it was very low. So I filled it to the max level. I will try to get it in to figure out what specifically it is!

Thanks for updating your profile Emma; Most likely, you have Quadra-Trac I.

Unless you have a silver T-Handle like the one in the photo below, circled in blue - if you have this then you have Quadra-Trac II.

Looks like it was my differential and bearing and seals and brakes all one giant problem. I stopped listening after the guy told me the price of repair 🤦🏼*♀️😫

Don't take what this shop told you as gospel.

I find it pretty hard to believe that all of these things failed at the same time - unless your Commander was really neglected before you took ownership of it.

Unless this is a shop or dealership that you have been going to for a long time, where you know the service department and trust them, I would take it to a well-reviewed shop or dealership and get a 2nd opinion Emma.

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Agree, seek a second opinion as, unfortunately, some shops are dealing with huge overhead. The Goodyear down the street has a $15,000 a month lease on the building before they even begin to pay for any overhead. They're not in an ideal spot with high-traffic either. With those high costs, come lies, unfortunately.
