@knottyguy ;

Welcome to the forum;

I would recommend you get the VIN number of the Commander you are buying and do the following before you buy it;

Go to the website URL below and plug in the VIN of the Commander you are looking at to see if all the factory re-calls & Campaigns have been completed:

Safety Recall Information | MOPAR

The difference between a safety recall and a campaign is this; a safety recall pertains to a vehicle problem that is a safety concern; a campaign is a vehicle problem that is not a safety concern, but, pertains to customer satisfaction.

You can go the website URL below to get the factory build sheet; You can also order an owner's manuals from this same website if your vehicle didn't come with a factory owner's manual.

Dodge - Contact Us

To get the factory build sheet for the Commander you are looking at, or for the Commander you have already bought, click on "Your Vehicle" click on "Equipment Listing" and then enter your VIN number in the box that says "VIN" and hit "Search". The factory build sheet will list all of the factory options & optional preferred equipment packages that your vehicle had installed from the factory when it was built.

Here is a secondary link to get a factory build sheet - either link will get you the same factory build sheet:

https://jeep.custhelp.com/app/jeep/eqlisting_detail/

Also read the following thread in it's entirety - lots of good Commander Information in here for a new owner - or a potential new owner;

https://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/...oking-buy.html

Best of luck with your search.

Did all that.

I guess she was a salesman's ride at the local Mopar store.

I'd also suggest checking for water stains in the headliner - either around the sunroof, or, around the area where the top of the front driver's and front passenger's doors meets the headliner.

If water stains are found in these areas of the headliner - they could be caused by leaky sunroof seals, clogged sunroof drains or leaky door seals and/or doors out of alignment.

All of these are common causes of water leaks in Commanders.

I'd also take a good look underneath the Commander and check for rust, any signs of possible impact damage and look for fluid leaks.

I would also shift into and out of 4-LOW and make sure your transfer case is working properly and that you don't receive any DTC's in the EVIC or the dreaded Service 4WD System alarm.
