Talking New Commander Owner

My wife and I were looking for a off road vehicle to support our expanding family and to replace our car as it didn't fit two car seats comfortably (we have a 13 month old and a 1 month old) and had decided on a Jeep Liberty when we stumbled upon a Commander at a used car lot. Once we discovered the third row, and the third row A/C (we live in Phoenix) the decision was made and we were on the hunt! That first Commander we saw only had QT-I and we knew we at least wanted QT-II. Took us a couple of weeks but we finally found a great deal on a clean 2007 model with 4.7L, QT-II, and in good shape with no leaks. We've only had it about a month, but we have already tested it climbing Schnebly Hill out of Sedona. As I suspected, a lift and better tires are in order as even that trail provided some ground clearance issues.

Welcome to the club. You can thank your Government for how that truck sits currently. It's like slapping God across the face looking at that fully capable 4x4 vehicle sitting the way it did from the factory. Depending on the mileage, a simple plate lift will be easy enough. If it's a higher mileage truck, I would replace everything with high quality suspension parts. Let us know what questions you have before you decide on a lift. The group here has seen it all...

Here are some pics from our trip last weekend. We wanted to get it off road right away, so we tried Schnebly Hill in Sedona.

Yeah, well I guess most owners don't take theirs off-road. I specifically bought it to get away 2 times a month. Luckily I am a hot rodder (my daily is a '65 F-100 ratty street rod) so I'm always under the hood of something. ?

Welcome to the forum!

Lots of info here to get your XK offroad ready. Its a very capable vehicle that will laugh at Schnebly Hill with a couple of mods

Except for ground clearance in one section it had no problems at all. My early goals are lift, skid plates, lights, and a roof rack. The plan is to leave on Friday nights after work and to get to places that the normal camping crowd can't get to, which means wheeling after dark.

Love Blue's bumper and winch setup, as well as WAMs rear bumper with tire and gas can holder, so those will be a little further in the future.

I'll look forward to meeting some of y'all in the AZ area, maybe doing some treks together.
