New XK Owner
Hey folks, my name is Brian and I just picked up my new 2009 Jeep Commander Overland (Light Graystone Pearl - Dark Slate Gray/Light Graystone) on Friday. This forum has been very helpful in my research, so I'm very appreciative.
I looked long and hard for this particular year and model which I found on AutoTrader a couple states away from me. The used dealer had 71 photos on their website from every conceivable angle and this was one of the best condition XK I've spotted. After communicating with the seller for a few days I took the risk of buying. Although there ended up being a few more imperfections than he noted (of course), nothing that would have been a deal breaker. It's in great condition inside and out.
Face with the task of retrieving the vehicle, I first submitted the transport job to one of those websites that puts it out for bids and quickly got bombarded with both emails and texts. A good chunk were over $1,000, just to transport 670 miles, many were just under a thousand and a few were around $500. I started checking reviews of the lower priced ones and just couldn't feel confident about using any of them, not mention the time frame was going to require more patience than I cared to give. I ended up renting a one-way car for a total of $212 and $55 in gas to get there. The dealer left the XK at Avis for me, so I dropped the rental off and immediately headed straight back in my new Commander for another $105 in gas. In less than one week from first spotting the ad and for a total of $372 with 1350 miles in 23 hours, it's a done deal.
Some of my immediate repair projects are a blend door issue on passenger side (no heat). Headlight issue, seems the auto adjuster is off. They are point down too much and every once in a while they look up for a few seconds. And one of the skylight shades won't retract. I've already found some useful threads on the blend door and skylight shade and need to search to the headlights soon.
I do have a few questions; No Trail Rated badges, did they not stick them on the Overland trim? I thought '09 had the push button start and "Fuel Saver Mode" indicator above average mpg. Owners manual shows them yet I have neither.
Anyway, please to be an official member of this forum. I hope to be here a long time.
