Hello,

Just bought a used 2006 Jeep Commander LTD with 126K on the odometer.
Head was blown on at least one side and the dealer had it "fixed".
Anyway I finally got it back. Not overheating any longer but man, where is the power in this rig?
Anyway. It's a beautiful Jeep and very well kept. Just the clear coat peeling on the plastics.
Going to correct that in the spring.
Just wanted to say hello to the group.

But if anyone knows how to get more get up and go out of this Jeep I'd like to know.
It already eats gas like no ones business.
But then I just came out of a 2001 BMW 325 Ci so maybe it is just an adjustment.

@Mick Jones;

Welcome to the forum; here is a little information for you;

Quote:
The Jeep Commander debuted in the 2006 model year. The Limited came with a 4.7-liter V8 prior to 2010; it generated 235 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque until 2008, when it was bumped up to 305 hp and 334 lb-ft. The 5.7-liter V8 made 330 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque till '09, when it went up to 357 hp and 389 lb-ft.

So you have a 2006 4.7L V-8 which if it's stock puts out 235 HP from the factory in "New" condition which is only about 20 HP more than the 3.7L V-6.

With that kind of power output - what were you expecting exactly??

I recognize that I am basing my assumptions on the fact that I am just getting out of a small sports car. So my view may be a bit skewed.
But a vehicle should be able to pass other vehicles?
Maybe not. Been a while since I have been behind a V8 of any kind.
It does speed up...a little. Like from 40 to 45ish.
It feels like the drive train is all torque. Engine makes lots of noise but it doesn't really get out of it's own way. I may be completely off base on this. Gas consumption is way up there as well. Maybe I just have to get used to it.

Well lets be honest here, the engine had a blown head on at least one side and I'm assuming was rebuilt. It may very well be that the engine is just not at 100%.

I'd take it back to the dealer that said they fixed it and ask them to do a compression check on all cylinders; That should at least tell you, if there is an obvious reason, that this engine has no power, as you claim.

The fact that you said the engine is also pretty noisy, is also somewhat concerning; A stock 4.7L engine is a pretty quiet, smooth running motor in my experience with them, so, you may have something else going on.

If that engine had a blown head as a result of over-heating, you could have any number of other problems, still left on your plate to deal with.
