Question Jeep Speak.....

First of all, I have to say that this Jeep Forum has been a great resource. I have had a lot of luck so far trouble shooting minor ailments afflicting my 2006 Commander, giving me the power to handle the auto repairmen like a "BOSS".

As I delve deeper into threads, I have noticed many posts where members are fluent in Jeep Speak; unfortunately, my novice rank prevents me quickly deciphering some of the abbreviations and acronyms.

I was wondering, if by chance there is a glossary of terms etc for newbies?

Thanks ahead of time!

Thanks ahead of time!
There is no glossary of terms per say but here are some of the more common ones you'll probably see - or have seen:

DTC: Diagnostic Trouble Code
EVIC: Electronic Vehicle Information Center
TPMS: Tire Pressure Monitoring System
ABS: Anti-lock Braking System
UCA: Upper Control Arm
LCA: Lower Control Arm
PCM: Powertrain Control Module
ECM: Engine Control Module

If you have a specific abbreviation or acronym you have a question about, I'm sure we can probably decipher it for you.

Thanks @Big Blue . I feel more at ease knowing I can come here with my questions. It would be grand if there were such a thing as a new Jeep Owners class, where one could go and learn, hands on everything an owner should know about their Jeep.

When I first started driving my Commander, I knew nothing about 4 LOW, and about had a stroke when I accidentally turned it on. I had to pull into a business parking lot and began hunting for people who could help me get the blasted thing shifted back to where it should be.

Not one of my more graceful Jeep experiences, that's for sure, but when I need a good laugh, I think back to that day.

At least you know now. I had a friend get stuck in a ditch after dropping one rear tire off the edge, and he was sure his 4Runner was only 2WD. I believed him, figured he had an open rear diff and was just spinning a tire, and pulled him out. Turns out he did have 4WD, and just had no idea how to use it.

No problem at all @creolemoon74;

People here are pretty good about sharing their knowledge & experiences; if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate;

Do you have an owners manual for your XK? The owners manual explains a lot, if you take the time to read it from cover to cover.

If by chance you don't have one, you can download one here;

https://www.mopar.com/jeep/en-us/my-...t-vehicle.html

Just click on "Jeep" then select "Year" and "Model" of your Commander and click on "Select Vehicle"

Next, click on the "Owner's Manual" tab under "QUICK LINKS" then click on the "DOWNLOAD THE MANUAL (PDF)" button.
