Hello, my wife and I just got our first Jeep a couple of weeks ago. An 07 Commander that looks like it spent it's whole life taking kids to school. We have given it a proper introduction to its new life exploring the mountains and desert around us. First day out we put a 1" cut in the middle of one tire. It now has proper tires!
We tend to go on mild-ish trails and roads looking for wild life and scenery. My wife is learning to off road and we often bring her parents. Its pretty funny the looks we get on the trails when it's my tiny wife driving and her older mom in the passenger seat! They use to ride horses and this lets them go in the back country like they use to. Just a bit more comfortable.

I can't post any place else yet. This will have to do.
Any way, I just found out that JBA has discontinued the 4xGuard skid plates. I already plan to add the missing factory skids but was hoping for the belly and front guards as well. Any alternatives out there? I can weld and do basic metal fab so that is an option.
I am at stock height and will not be adding much, if any, lift for the foreseeable future. I did order some Rocky-road rock sliders. We have lots of sharp rocks out here and have already gotten some hits while off road.
The Steel Armadillo makes skid plates for the Commander. He has them for everything except the gas tank. There is a facebook page and a website. Check it out.
Thank you. I ordered the 3 factory skid plates from Jparts. I also ordered some rocky road sliders. Once I get all that installed I will see what is left that needs protection.
This site has been great to research over the last few weeks. It just kind of threw me when I found out 4xGuard was no longer an option.
We are going out tonight for some fun. Wife got a new camera and I will try to get some good pics of us with the jeep.

The 1" line between knobs was ripped open. Dead center of the tire face. Front passenger side. Replaced all 5 tires with BFG K02 in factory size. Fairly quiet tire with excellent grip off road so far. Minor humm around 20mph.
These are the kinds of trails I see lots of around Las Vegas. I negotiated this spot twice. Had to turn around just past this area because the trail turned into much bigger rocks and I don't have any protection yet or a lift kit. Not even a mark on the new tires from these rocks.
"Y" turn on an off camber decent was a bit of a clencher. Wife was nervous till she remembered some of the videos I showed her about how the commander's 4WD system handles tires off the ground.:laugh2::laugh2: We were not THAT steep or rough. Wish I had a video tho.
Here is the view from the top of the decent in the previous post. This was a trail I found just looking at Google maps satellite view. It connects Sloan shooting area to Jean Roach Lake south of Vegas.
One more shot to get my 10 posts in.
This is a road to a mining pit on the other side of the above trail. From here you have many options for mostly sandy trails that turn to rocks as you go closer and up the sides of the dry lake bed.
Welcome to the group! I’m also in Vegas. Keep my info handy if you want to do some off reading or camping locally. I’ve seen a lot of it. My set up should be in my signature block!
We will have to get together soon. We do go camping, that's one of the reasons for the Jeep. Till now we used my van, works great and has plenty of ground clearance. However it's 2WD and has a HUGE turning radius!
That rock garden is in the Sloan Canyon shooting area. That whole area has some fun tracks, mostly easy. However there are also some challenges that a stock Commander can only safely do with a skilled driver. Biggest problem out there are the sharp rocks. I'm using it as a proving/training ground since you're never too far from cell service and help.
Welcome. I have a couple of trips planned out to be in Vegas. One in October for my god daughter's birthday and planning to attend the SEMA/AAPEX shows in November.
Actually, it has nothing to do with forum permissions;
It's due to the software limitations of the Mobile View Smart phone app, which is what is used when viewing the forum from a Smart phone.
