Hey everyone, I thought I would start a new thread to see if anyone has painted the black moldings around the Jeep, the cowl -which is between the hood and windshield, black moldings under the doors and rear bumper where it is black??

I went ahead and painted the cowl after getting the front wiper blades off because it was fading and turning light black/gray. I gave it a bunch of coats and am applying the clear coat tomorrow and will post pics to show how it came out.. So far its looking much much better!!! But if anyone has taken anything else off and painted it please post ideas, pics and suggestions!!! :eyemouth:

i hit this plastic trim with a rag (socks work great) with a bit of armor-all or black magic after a good wash. usually once every 3-4 washes is enough to keep it all looking brand new and fade resistant. everytime i armor-all the interior plastics i get the exterior pieces too. just be sure to spray the armor-all on the rag and not directly onto the jeep. that stuff makes a mess of freshly-washed paint. after its all clean and the trim is deep shiny black like it was on the showroom floor, it'll make you fall in love with your truck all over again ;)

Totally agree! Just a little PM and they will stay black for a long time.

I dont know what PITA is but it was cake!! The wiper blades didnt wanna come off too easy but a little shimmy and twisting they came right off. Im waiting for the paint to dry all night and then apply the clear coat tomorrow afternoon. Yeah it does look like crap when it fades!! My brother did it to his F150 and it turned out awesome, so I thought what the heck, i might as well try it.. so far so good!!!

Did you keep it black, or paint it body color? What kind of paint? Did you have to use a primer? :icon_confused:

very interesting topic. definitely need pics and details in your work like the paint used and primer if any or anything else you may or may not have done.

I painted my rocker panels (below doors) white to match the body. I also painted the black plastic trim on the back bumper around the hitch. I will snap some pics when my wife brings the commander home. We were doing other paint work to the Commander so we painted these parts at the same time. I prepped the parts with a 3M pad and prep solvent. We then used adhesion promoter primer followed by paint and clear. I think it looks great and was very easy.

I wonder what it would look like to use bedliner on the fender flares and bumpers?
