Hey fellas, i could use your help. i just installed some new bfg at ko's in 245/75/17 . i read that they should fit with no problem. I have a 2" RC lift and a 1.5 inch spidertrax spacers and 17x9 cragar black soft 8 rims.
the tires rub like crazy and sound like they are gonna rip off my fenders. Do i need 255/65/17's?
Do you think this could be because my front struts are so worn? i was supposed to get new struts and shocks put on at the same time as the tires but the place i ordered sent me the wrong ones. I reordered the monroe quick strut assemble for the fronts. do you think this will increase the height and give the tires clearance?
Hopefully the shocks help because the truck looks insane with the bfg's
I'm running a 255/75/17 with a 2" in front and a 1-1/2" in rear. I don't rub at all.
I'm running the stock wheels with a 1-1/4" spacer.
My lift included new struts.
It looks to me like the problem is an aftermarket wheel with less backspacing AND a 1.5" spacer. The spacer is unnecessary, in fact this size tire could be ran on stock wheels with no spacer no problem. Additionally the pinch weld mod would help.
the wheels are just dirty but they are only one season old.. i actually love the way they look. they are cragar soft 8's 17x9 with 5in backspacing.
The spacers arent necessary, i just love the look of it. with the wider stance . is it possible to keep the rear spacers and take off the front ones? would it affect the ride or be dangerous?
5" backspacing is the equivalent to running 1.5" spacers on stock wheels. You are adding 1.5" spacers on top of that, so it would be similar to running 3" spacers on stock wheels. This is absolutely the reason that you are rubbing @ lock.
This is my Commander with 5.39" backspacing and no spacers. The stance is plenty wide.
(yours will stick out .39" more on each side for a total of .78" wider stance than mine without spacers.)
Also speaking of those wheels, you should definitely tell your tire shop to install the wheel weights on the INSIDE, doesn't that drive you nuts? The weights really take away from the look.
That is some crazy back spacing! That being said if you really like the setup then you need to put the work in to making them fit. (enough time and money you can do anything) My last XK I ran 285/70/17 on a 2" lift with stock wheels and 1.5" spacers. Was it easy? heck no, but I kept at it until I could stuff the tire safely. Take a ground to fender measurement and a center hub to fender measurement so we can tell how much lift you really have. Doing the pinch weld mod and remolding the wheel liner is probably going to be necessary. Its not hard I did the pinch weld mod on a WK on a trail because he was rubbing so bad. You may have to do other trimmings as well but lets see the measurements before we go that far.
This is how much trimming I had to do. The bumper and flares were trimmed. I had to cut out the pinch weld folding it over wasn't enough. Also had to remove the rear heat lines.
