I want a service manual for my 06 XK. I prefer a paper manual but prices are terrible for that version. Would consider a web download if I could verify that it is a SAFE download. I see lots of online adds for a cheap PDF download but I am wary of letting an unknown source download any type of file to my computer. Even a CD can contain a virus. Anyone here downloaded a manual recently and able to verify that the download was safe?
FYI, for those who worry about things like this and also copyright/intellectual property issues:
Often your local public library will have electronic access to factory service information. Where I live (rural northern Georgia, USA), our public library offers access to the EBSCO "Auto Repair Reference Center" which includes factory service information for many vehicles, including all the Jeep XK/WK Commanders and Grand Cherokees. It used to just ask for my library card # to get in, even from home. Recently, they "secured" that database with a "secret password" that you have to go to the library to get once every few months.
Also, Autozone owns AllData and puts a significant amount of AllData service information online at AutoZone.com, but you do have to sign up for a free account there and log in to see that AllData "service manual" information.
For more "commercial" use, if you have a Napa account (even if it's a cash only commercial account), they grant you access to a significant part of their Mitchell 1 Service.
