We are going to be pulling our small TT to the beach next weekend.

Putting the hitch, brake controller, wiring on the XK this weekend.

Due for oil change, service interval for coolant, trans, tcase, all right now.

Called the dealer thinking, it's hot as Hades, I work outside all day, why not have the dealer do the maintenance.

$550. And that doesn't include the engine oil/filter or that job itself.

$550 for a tranny fluid and filter change, transfer case fluid change, and a engine coolant change.

Unbelieveable.

Don't let them flush the transmission.

Roger that, saw the thread.

I'm doing the work now. Was just trying to save myself some effort before our getaway.

It's not unbelievable, they call them Stealerships for a reason, and that's really par for the course.

Changing out my upper and lower radiator hoses and they wanted about 200.00 for both. Gates hoses run about 50.00 for both. Anyone that's ever used Gates cooling products knows they make quality stuff, there's no way MOPAR stuff is worth 4X as much.

Par for the course.

Yeah, the dealers "FLEECE" you to say the least. But, if you are not really into the hassel of draining your T-Case, and Tranny and dealing with getting rid of the used oils properly, than $550 dollars is about equivilant to 1 new car payment, which would come sooner if your Commander isn't maintained properly. A reputable Chrysler dealer will add an additive to your T-Case and Tranny that will prolong their respective lives.

Any service shop should be able to change these fluids, there is no need to use the Dealer proprietary tools to change fluids, you should be able to have this performed at a far lower price at an independent shop.

Dealers have been caught using the wrong fluids, but for the most part you can trust them to use the right fluids. And that is the risk with independent shops, they are more likely to use what they have in stock or on hand, that is NOT the right fluid. Make sure to discuss that and the fluid to be used before the job is done, better yet, purchase the correct fluid yourself and deliver it to be used when they do the job, most independent shops will agree to that.

If you have the V6, then you have the NAG1 trans that requires a special tool to check the fluid level, NOT all independent shops will have it, the V8's any independent shop should be able to change trans fluid.

The QDII drivetrain, that has ELSD's differentials requires an additive friction modifier, the rest do NOT. The O.M. and FSM states generically to use the Friction modifier in all the Differentials, but its NOT necessary for anything that does NOT have the ELSD, it doesn't hurt, it doesn't help, and you paying extra unnecessarily. If you do have QDII with the ELSD's, you definitely need the friction modifier, without it, the ELSD's won't perform properly and the clutches in them will wear much faster.

I'm NOT aware of any additive to extend the life that the Dealerships uses for differentials and TCase, a good quality oil already has the best additives in it. Most additives are snake oils that do NOT work, the O.M. warns against using them. A few additives have their place, if you need them, but in most cases people do NOT.

Hey Mongo. Thanks for the post.

Small world. Isn't Lusby close to Deal/Friendship/Owings?

Wife's family lives up there. :eek:rangehat:

I bought my Jeep XJ used in Deale, but depends on what you mean by close, those are nearly an hour away. Lusby is down on the tip of the pennisula, down by Solomons Island.

QDII Systems Do Not require a modifier. You should only use the proper Mobil 1 Full Synthetic gear oil.
I do NOT have the QDII, so correct me if I'm wrong, but does NOT the O.M. and FSM say it requires the friction modifier?

Some limited slip differentials, do say they need the friction modifier just for break-in, but from what I've seen that is NOT the case for the Commander. Anyone have more to add?

QDII needs it, some of the oil for the diffs(mobil.. ect...) say you don't have to add friction modifier as its already in the oil.

I get easily confused, no where on our 4.7 06' does it say anything about QDII.

So I will be going by this sites capacities and using the gear oil. Synthetic.

Yea truthfully I thought Lusby was closer to North Beach, but thats OK. What's an hour?
