I made an appointment to get a HOLLANDIA 700 SERIES inbuilt sunroof installed in my 06 Commander. A little nervous about having a hole drilled in my Jeep. Anyone out there had a AM sunroof put in yet? How did it look?

Note: I have a 02 WK with a after market sunroof (Airsole or something) and it has worked out great. Thanks.

Well, as I type, my Commander is getting a hole drilled in the roof. Should be ready tomorrow (Friday). I'll post pictures this weekend. Apparently, the company I have doing the work has put in 2 other sunroofs on Commanders and according to them, they turned out perfect.

Still.. I'm a bit nervous.

I had one put in mine last year. They cut the hole too big and had to end up welding on a whole new roof! Then the interior got damaged when they were welding so the leather had to be repaced along with the dash and the carpet. They couldn't get the paint to match either. They had to repaint the whole car. Then the electronics wouldn't work right so they had to install in entirely new wire harness. Well to make a long story short the faulty wiring caused the engine to overheat and it cracked the heads. The good news is everything is running fine now and I am just pulling your leg about the sunroof install because I have no idea if there any good or not. :)

I have an aftermarket power sunroof installed. Looks good IMO, works good. The only thing that I didn't like at first is where they put the switch. It's was placed on the headliner just to the left of the area where the stock switch is located. But it doesn't look bad and is easy to use.

That's exactly where they said they are going to place my controls.

Thanks Walkjon, I was moving a little slowly this morning, but now my heart rate is up and I'm wide awake.

//edit// sorry to jump off-topic w/ my above question...so don't forget to post pics when it's done!

Well. I got it back. Initially, it looked fantastic, but as my obsessive nature progressed, I've found some problems. Mechanically, it seems to work perfect. I'm happy with the control placement and the look of the headliner. When I was driving 55 mph in pretty strong wind I noticed that the material moved a bit (which it didn't before). Everything seems really tight when stopped, but there are now some places where the foam-headliner is missing. I think that was to be expected. The other problem I've found is the way the bump in the roof was handled. It does not look very clean. I have a WK with 4 similar bumps and an aftermarket sunroof and it looks fine. They used a rubber spacer on that, but it appears they tried to use a black caulk material on this. The last, and probably most important problem is I took it in for a car wash this morning and afterwards reached up into the slider and felt slight moisture. I didn't want to find that. I'll bring it in again on Monday and see what they can do. For anyone interested I'll keep posting on this thread.

Here is the top of my 2002 WK with an aftermarket sunroof. I like how this was handled with the 4 ridges. Hopefully, they can/will replicate that. Had the sunroof the life of the vehicle and not a drip. Don't mind the dirt build-up in the seam.

So I have her back at the Auto Trim place. They said that it is completely normal for small amounts of liquid to enter the sunroof. The moisture I was feeling was the water pan which collects any of the moisture by basically a gutter type system. On each corner of the pan there is a drain hole which has tubes attached that then drain to the bottom of the vehicle. If these holes gott clogged, that is when I would see water actually in my vehicle, but they are pretty big drains so hopefully this won't happen. They demonstrated all of this to me on a sunrroof they had laid out from the box. All seemed legit to me??

As far as the silicone caulk job, which I posted pictures of, they acknowledged it could look a bit better and are currently smoothing it out and recaulking. I'll let you know how this looks.

Next time it rains really hard, reach up behind your sunroof and see if you feel slight moisture in a pan. I will for sure in my other sunroof on my WK.

I paid $1299, and so far I love it. They resolved the silicone caulk issue and smoothed it out, and I have not really noticed liquid in the rain drip tray. It looks great inside (I believe is a bit bigger then the stock sunroof) and works great also. Very happy I went with it.

Durkinma, thanks for the info, photos and updates. This confirms i will be purchasing a sunroof for my jeep.

Its the way to go. Too bad they put that ridge on the non-sunroof models, but it can be dealt with. Here is a post with some pics. The last one you can kind of see how the ridge from the ground postion. Its one of those things that no one would ever notice except the owner.

AM sunroof

Can you post pics and a price? I saw one done in Los Angeles, it looked weird due to the non sunroof versions have a raised section in the center which made for an odd, not so clean cut. Did they install the mini windows above the 2nd row too?
