I think I'm in good company based on how many folks have issues with their TPMS. When I bought mine, the rear left was not reading, so I had a new pre-programmed (which had to be programmed anyway) VDO unit. The "orange flat of death" light went away and I got a PSI reading back on my premium TPMS system. Cool.

After doing some fluid/maintenance work last night, I took it for a drive in the snow and I got a quick chime and EVIC message of "Check TPM System." Okay, not so cool. It went away as quick as it came and the TPM system stated "OK." Further, the tires all seemed to read correctly and even when I brought it into my garage, I verified the values with a digital tire pressure reader. If it weren't for the fact that it worked okay after I got it from the shop, I'd have thought it wasn't the sensor but the wheel well transponder. Maybe it's both?

Anyway, another forum member on a different forum said they had a bad connection at the rear transponder connector (or sometimes the wiring leading to the connection can get damaged) that acted up when it was moist, so I wonder if the snow is a factor. It's been pretty dry here in North Dakota until recently. Anyway, that person had fixed their connection and their problem went away. I plan on checking my OBDII for any codes, but if anyone has experience with this situation or dealing with the wiring, I'd be appreciative on how to locate that transponder.

I've got the same problem with mine. I've already purchased a new trigger module (what they apparently call the transponder module) and will probably replace it anyway as it was only about $70. It's very easy to find, just to the right of the resonator behind the right, rear wheel. Look up past the resonator behind the plastic fender liner. I think the heat from the resonator might be part of the reason these have so much trouble.

Thanks for the information! By any chance, do you have the part number for the rear transponder/trigger?
