First post! I have been a long time stalker/reader on here and I cannot seem to find a problem like I am having now.

Like the title says, I am having a loud "clunk" from the front end. This seems to happen every time I am slowing down on a small hill in my neighbor. It almost sounds like a violent,loud downshift but the rev's do not change, or I do not notice it, when this happens.

I am not sure if this is coming from the transfer case or the transmission, but it seems more like the transfer case area.

Also, I changed the diff/transfer case fluid and it seems that the TF has been out at some point as I can see permatex sealant around the case and there is almost always a drop of fluid hanging off of it.

Has anyone had this problem or have any suggestions for me to trouble shoot it?

Mine used to down shift hard into first from second, into passing gear and from neutral into reverse.

Worn transfer case bushing and needed a replaced solenoid pack in the transmission.

So is this dealer service only stuff or can I do it myself if I have the parts?

Also, what did it cost you and how did they troubleshoot that?

I researched and the work was covered under extended powertrain warranty.
