You said the heater works well so that is a good indication that you got all the air out. Next best guess is a blown head gasket. To check - with engine cold, remove radiator fill cap, run engine till hot while watching in the radiator fill port. If you see bubbles in the coolant it indicates a blown head gasket - or a cracked block.
